I have a user who needs to save all her Outlook stuff (.pst files). She
is using Outlook from Windows2000 and will be going to XP. She has tried
saving everything with DOS delimited files and found that several pieces
didn't work when she tried to access them.

I'm sure this has been beat to death here, but I'm new to this newsgroup
and frankly don't know much about Outlook.

Please feel free to reply here or by email (after removing the no spam
stuff.)

Oops. I just read my post and realized that I didn't ask a question. How
does she save (or copy) her .pst files in some manner other than DOS
delimited files so that the end result isn't corrupted when she
re-installs them?

There are two utilities that can be found here
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/housekeeping.htm
OutBack Plus and Personal Folders Backup that will do the trick for her.

Hmmm. Looks promising, but OutBack Plus only says it works for Office
2000. She has Office 2000 on Windows2000, but will be going to Office XP
on Windows2000. Will that be a problem?

Personal Folders Backup also doesn't mention Office XP, but Office 2002.
Is that the same thing?

I have found that most addins and such that work on 2000 will most likely
work on 2002 which is outlook XP. You can backup the pst file manually by
choosing file then import/export then export then choose personal file
folder(.pst) and then choose the top of the tree and then select subfolders
and next and choose where to back it up to and there you have all your
outlook data backed up.

On the PC close down Outlook.
Goto Find -> Files and Folders
Search for *.PST

They may be quite big depending on the amount of emails in there, there
will be at least one (probably mailbox.pst) and possibly an archive.pst

On the new PC:
Install the same version of Outlook
Goto Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mail and Fax (Note: This part
may be slightly different as I've not had much of a chance to play with
XP)
Create a profile and add the Personal Folder service
Point the personal folder service to the location of the .PST file(s).

All of her emails should now be abck.

I'd also recommend that you make a note of the POP3 and SMTP servers,
Plus any other settings that may be needed for the new PC.

Regards,

Can you migrate from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2002 using this method?
