How do you save emails from outlook and transfer them

I need to reinstall windows to my computer and have backed up all but my
email files. I do not know how to do this. I want to export them to an
external hard drive for safe keeping, how do i transfer them? After
transferred how do i retrieve them?

Simple instructions are best as i am self taught in most of what i do ...

"All of your email files?" There is only one data file in Outlook, not
several. Are you using Outlook? Information on how to backup your Outlook
data file is provided here daily. Read one of those posts.

Check Control Panel | Mail to see where your data files are. Copy them
to the external drive; make sure that Outlook is closed when you do!

Once you have reinstalled Windows, copy the PST files back to their
original location (any location, actually), install Office, then open
the file from Outlook.

Never export for Outlook-to-Outlook transfers. See this:
