Since installing SP3 my autocorrect entries are not being actioned in
Outlook. For information, I do not use Word as my email editor, and I compose
messages in Plain Text. Autocorrect was working fine with this combination
before SP3.

Tool > Options > Spelling 'Use auto correct when Word isn't the email
editor' is still ticked, and 'Tool > Options > Spelling > AutoCorrect Options
... still shows all my entries, but none of them get actioned.

I have made no changes other than applying SP3 to all my Office 2003 suite.

Sounds like a bug in SP3, but if anyone knows a workaround I would be
grateful.

Auto-correct is working OK in Word.

I believe I read that's an issue with SP3. Consider uninstalling SP3.

Removing SP3 is not really a viable option - see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873125.

Brian, as an MVP, can you report this as a bug and get a comment from
Microsoft?

I have had the exact same experience. Is there any update or fix for this?

Supposedly, but I haven't learned how yet.

In a newsgroup, either one or more of these public groups or in one of the
private Microsoft groups. I can't recall which, however.

I have encountered this as well and it is driving me crazy! It would be nuts
to have to go back and uninstall everything and start over at the very
beginning -- I am concerned this will de-stabilize my working environment.

Am desperate for Microsoft to announce a "fix" for this without uninstalling
SP3 and encountering piecemeal side effects.

I reported this to MS and currently working with an engineer. They have
reproduce the issue thank goodness and confirmed it is a bug. So far while
they are investigating it, they suggested using Word as the email editor or
uninstalling SP3 which means you have to uninstall Office 2003 and reinstall
then patch without SP3.
I am choosing to wait and see if they can fix it....

I have also had this problem since installing SP3 (should have known to wait
at least a month...). Anyone hear of any progress from Microsoft yet? It's
driving me nuts...

MS have accepted this as a bug in SP3. See

Does anyone has an estimate as to how long it typically takes Microsoft to
distribute a patch for a bug such as this one? Will I see something in a
month, 6 months, a year, never?

Even if you use Word as e-maileditor, AutoCorrect doesn't work anymore in
e.g. Agenda in Outlook.
Also, if you use Outlook as e-maileditor, AutoCorrect doesn't work.
If you try the workaround that MS suggests in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943519/en-us , AutoCorrection still doesn't
work. I was used to make appointments etc. while the first letter of a
sentence was capitalized.
I saw this discussion in microsoft.public.officeupdate too.

Hi
It's mid November and all gone quiet on this subject. Has anybody got any news on Microsoft's progress on the Auto-Correct issue?

This is a pretty big annoyance considering the number of workstations that
need to uninstall/reinstall just to make it work properly.

No signs of any workarounds on my searches up to this point.
Hopig to hear something on this thread...

Has anyone else had Instant Messenger "re-activated" lately? I removed IM from the startup in msconfig and it was fine until recently when it appeared on boot up one morning. So I went back into the msconfig and removed it again but this morning it is back!!!! I do not want IM!!! :x

Well, MS update just put out an update file for Outlook 2003, but it does not fix the autocorrect problem. I guess I wonder if MS plans on just telling us to use the workaround of Word as the email editor. That workaround doesnt work for me and my staff, but I have a feeling we are gonna get the short end of the stick. Anyone else have any news on this issue?

They still haven't fixed the problem of switching message formats. Due to company policy all e-mails must go out in the Garamond font. Outlook is set up to "Always use my fonts" and use Plain Text for new messages but if I change the format to Rich Text then the font gets changed to Ariel.

Yippeee!!! It's working again! Didn't see an update for it, but it is now working again. I logged onto the computer over RDC during the holidays and the pc I logged in with doesn't have the Service Pack so I don't know if that affected things. Anyway, it's working now. Is anybody else's working again?

It was RDC that it! It's still not fixed. The RDC replaced my Quick Launch icon with one that points at the computer I was logged into (one that hasn't had the Service Pack applied). I only found this out when I started Outlook from a different icon. Good old Roaming Profiles have struck again! Sorry about that people!!!

Microsoft have released a hotfix which supposedly fixes this issue. I
have requested the hotfix, waiting for it to arrive before seeing if
it fixes this annoying AutoCorrect problem.

I was able to download the hotfix but I must admit I became a little
intimidated during the installation process and quit. It looks like you have
to select which folder to install in, which probably isn't too hard to figure
out, but it also looks like the user is supposed to modify the registry,
which I have done before, ....but, I think I'll wait for SP3.

Please let us know how you made out with the hotfix.

Hello all,

I have received the Hotfix KB945430 from Microsoft. It worked fine.
Can someone tell me, if I can distribute this hotfix with the WSUS.

Thanks for your help

Thank you for your quick response to my question. I actually did download the
hotfix but got cold feet partway through the installation. The installation
process was not clear to me. Is there a step by step guide as to how to
install it?

I'm usually very savvy on the computer, but I also sense where not to go
sometimes.

Thank you,

Rick

The hotfix worked like a charm and was simple to install. Did I mention all
of my nagging problems related to AutoCorrect are resolved now. I'm really a
happy camper.
