outlook2000 doesn't support hotmail's http service. you need an addin see

Outlook 2000 does not support Hotmail the same way as Outlook Express.
However, you can use Pop3Hot <http://pop3hot.com> to send and receive
Hotmail with Outlook (any version).

Just make a new folder called hotmail and then right click on it and set the
home page to http://www.hotmail.com. This will open the hotmail log in page
within outlook when you click on the folder. Not the same as adding an
account in Outlook express, but it gets the job done without another browser
window or add in.
