Getting "Object Not Found" Error on Send/Receive

Hi

I have just migrated my Outlook 2002 files to a new machine. I tried it both
with ABF Outlook Backup and OutSource XP (applications which move all the
Outlook files, registry entries, etc). I get slightly different results with
each program:

With OutSource XP, when I select Send/Receive the Outlook Progress window
pops up with the errors messages:
"Task 'CH - Comcast - Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation
failed. An object could not be found.'"
"Task 'CH - Comcast - Receiving' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The
operation failed. An object could not be found.'"
'CH - Comcast' is the name of the email account.

When using ABF Outlook Backup, it's worse: the "object not found" error pops
up as soon as I select Send/Receive (or even Send/Receive options in
Tools->Options->Mail Setup). I don't even get as far as the Outlook Progress
window.

Anyone have any idea what might cause the "object not found" message?

Your send/receive settings are most likely messed up. Close Outlook and
make sure that it is no longer listed in Task Manager. Once that is done,
open Windows Explorer and navigate to \documents and
settings\<userid>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and rename/delete the
.SRS file. Restart Microsoft Outlook and redefine you send/receive
settings.

Hi

Thanks for the info. I found and deleted 66(!) .SRS files. Now the
OutsourceXP-migrated data behaves just like the ABF one - ie, immediate
error ("The operation failed. An object could not be found.") on
Send/Receive (or Tools->Options->Mail Setup->Send/Receive).

How do I recreate these settings?

After you delete the .SRS file, just start Outlook and press CTRL + ALT + S
to bring up the send/receive dialog so you can establish what settings you
want.

Just so you know, if you continue to get the error after doing the above,
then I would delete POP3 settings for the comcast account from Outlook,
restart outlook, and then add the settings back manually.

Hi

I uninstalled Outlook, deleted the contests of C:\Documents and
Settings\chris\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and C:\Documents and
Settings\chris\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

I then reinstalled, ran Windows Update, and started Outlook. It couldn't
find the PST file, so I had it create a new one. Same problem as before
(oject not found). Somehow, all my mail accounts still existed, despite my
deleting the directories above. Are they stored in the registry? Is there
any way to delete them other than through Outlook's Email Accounts?

Finally, I tried CTRL + ALT + S, which again produced the "object not found"
error.

I deleted all my email accounts, and recreated a single account. I ran the
Test option on it, and it passed. However, Send/Receive or CTRL + ALT + S
produce exactly the same message as before.

I cannot delete or rename the Outlook.srs file; which seems to be creating
problems; preventing me from Sending/receiving emails in Microsoft Outlook. I
am getting an error message that "another person" is using program.

How can I close any programs that may by using this file.

At the same time, the Outlook does not allow me to delete emails from the
inbox or folders

Close Outlook. Use the task manager to make sure all instances of the
"OUTLOOK.EXE" process are gone. You should then be able to manipulate the
file. You should also be able to reboot and manipulate the file provided
you do nothing to start Outlook beforehand.

KB 312354 was just the ticket to fix my email and calendar reminders. I did
not build a new profile but cleaned up the Data Files. I had an extra
Outlook.pst file entry. I deleted the entry for the 2nd one, leaving the one
with default setting alone. All reminders came back.

NOW, I hope that will clear up my Indexing problem which has been ongoing
for months. But that may be asking too much. Right now I can do no searches
in Outlook or files in general.
