I have a friend whose inbox is currently at 1.9G. He has to move some
folders from his inbox to the hared drive. All I want to know is how to copy
a folder from the Inbox to another location on the hard drive. I really
don't want to create a .pst, just copy the folder, like I would any other
folder on the hard drive. So far as i can tell, this is an impossible task.

An Outlook folder has meaning only inside Outlook. You can drag the individual items to a Windows Explorer folder, then delete them from Outlook, which means they'll no longer be visible in Outlook. If you create a new .pst file, which is not an impossible task, and copy or move the folder there, they'll still be visible in Outlook.
