I have the most bizzare situation. I have been running Outlook 2003 for a
very long time now without any problems at all. Suddenly a few weeks ago I
clicked on the send/receive button and absolutly nothing happens. No matter
how many times i clicked it it didnt do a thing. At first I was turning off
the PC and
back on again, but I have since found all I need to do is log off and log
back on again to that account then the send and receive button will work and
I get mail. I then close outlook and go back in to check mail for example
1/2 hour later, and the same again. The send/receive button simply does
nothing. So now I am in a situation where I have to log off and on again
before I can check my mail each time and its becoming very tedious.

This is not a connection problem, because by pressing the send/receive
button absolutly nothing happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Sounds like something is funky with the send/receive settings file that is
stored to the hard drive. The file has a .SRS file extension and located
under:

c:\documents and settings\<userid>\application data\microsoft\outlook

My advice is to rename the file to <filename>.srs.old

This way if the file is sitting on a bad block on the hard drive, the new
file ends up on a different spot on the hard drive.

But my guess the outlook.exe process is still running. This a different
issue on its own.
See http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/outlookdoesntclose.htm if it happens
more often.

neo's solution worked like a charm.
