We are running 2007 against SBS 2003 Exchange server. We have a series of
events held in 2007 that each had their own subfolder. I created and managed
each of these subfolders. I now want to move them into a main 2007 folder
but receive the message "Can't move or copy folder as it may contain private
items".

We do not use private items. Some folders have messages only sent by me.
Even those folders receive this comment when I try to move them.

Help!

So where are they located now? In a Public Folder? Share Mailbox? What kind
of permissions do you have on the folder?

I have multiple e-mail addresses. These folders are in one of my addresses.
I have full permission on my folders. I created each of the subfolders.

I have the existing subfolders filed in a main folder called Events. I have
created a subfolder called 2007. I want to move all of the individual
subfolders created for each of the 25 events under the 2007 Events folder. I
can't move them either by dragging or by right clicking and choosing move. I
get the "may contain private items" error message.

I am having the same issue.

I can move the folders to my own mailbox though and then move them around
but when I try to move a folder contained in another mailbox where I have
full permission he gives me the same message. This is after a migration from
2000 to 2007. Folder does not contain private messages.

Seems like a lot of people in this thread have the same problem. Is there an
answer

Do you have acceptable permissions on the folders to move the items? If you
are a delegate to the mailbox, do you have move permissions?

Give yourself owner permissions on the folders and you should be able to
move them without a problem.

I re-read everyone's postings. It seems that the messages (for everyone)
are either in public folders, another user's folder for whom the person has
full permissions, or in a combination of both (which is my case.) I set up
everyone's e-mail accounts ---we have about 10 users -- and have three
people's that load along with mine when I synch. We also use public folders.
We're running on SBS 2003 exchange.

hi all

my self and my colleagues have the same problem in a shared mailbox, the
folders in question are all created by us and contain the same mails ie order
request ,supplier response. we can move some folders but not others

one thing i have noticed if you move the contents out first you can then
move the folder???. i found this out as i was trying to identify which mail
was the one causing the problem

im sure all the users have owner permissions on the mail box and sub folders

watching this with interest
