Can someone tell me if I can use Outlook to send out bulk emails?
How long would it take to send out, say a 1000 emails?
What are the advantages and disadvantages over doing it by scripting
instead?

(I'm not planning to send spam or anything!! Just to a couple of thousand
subscribed users.)

I'd want each individual email to be personally addressed to the relevant
user.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I send messages to 1,300 subscribers. From two distribution
lists in Outlook 2003.

Some preparation is necessary. You should register with
your ISP as a bulk mailer. Then when AOL balks, you can
have them contact your ISP and they will again allow you to
sen to their subscribers. You will neeed a fixed IP address
which is seldom available from a residential account.
Switch to a commercial account. Even with the Bulk
approval, my ISP limits the distribution between 11:00 p.m.
and 4:00 a.m. Yours may be different.

In order to accomplish the individual name routine, read:
http://www.myscacc.org/Newsletters/0408News.pdf This will
create one message for each individual.

How long? I have a 4 MB (download) broadband service. How
long depends on the size of the message. If you are using
an antivirus program to scan all outgoing messages, much
longer.
