I ran the Inbox Repair Tool and at the very end it stopped with a message of
an error. I clicked "OK". Then I looked at the log it created and at the end
of the log it said, "Fatal Error: 8004080B, dwErr=0".

I summized from the way Outlook still operated, that the repair did not work.

I have absolutely no idea what this is. I searched for the string on the
web, and got nothing.

Can anyone help.

What version of Outlook and how big is your pst?
What symptoms lead you to run the repair tool?

Sorry I should have mentioned that. I am using Outlook 2000 on and XP machine.
The program started locking up, starting taking for ever to open. Right now
I can open the program, but can't click on anything with out it locking up.
The size of the PST file is (oh my gosh) 2+ gig.

Well, I wasn't aware of the size limit for Outlook 2000, but after reading
several other questions here, I believe my issue is simply that. My PST is
too big. I can't afford the solution tip on slipstick.com. But I've now seen
others that do similar repair on CNET.
So thank Diane. Hopefully I'll find one I can afford.

You won't need to buy an app unless the standard fix fails - which is to
chop the pst down to size.
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/repair2gbpst.asp has the free
instructions - and a link to the crop tool Microsoft released. Then run
scanpst.

Thanks to all. I was able to save my PST file. I was able to delete some
old stuff and then "COMPACT" it within the tools of Outlook. So I am lucky.

I will be updating to Office 2007 soon, until then I will keep my eye on the
size.

Thanks again to all with your suggestions.

Great, you got your .pst file without the need of buying third party
'pst recovery' (http://www.pst-recovery-software.com/) software. The
software is designed to 'repair pst'
(http://www.repair-outlook-pst.com/) files and recover and restore
mails, contacts, tasks, journal, notes, calendar items and other
personal storage folders lost from your Microsoft Outlook account.

You may found following KB article helpful to manage the .pst file in
future to avoid such problems.
'How to manage .pst files in Outlook 2007, in Outlook 2003, and in
Outlook 2002' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070)

Microsoft Outlook 2002 and earlier versions limit the size of Personal
Folders (PST) file to 2GB. Whenever the PST file reaches or exceeds
that limit, you will not be able to open or load it any more, or you
cannot add any new data to it. This is called oversized PST file
problem. More detailed information can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/2gb-pst.htm

You can use Advanced Outlook Repair to solve the problem, by either
converting it into Outlook 2003 format ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/convert-2gb-pst.htm
), or splitting it into smaller pieces ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/split-2gb-pst.htm
)

http://www.datanumen.com/aor/ contains the detailed information about
Advanced Outlook Repair.

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe
As you will be using Office 2007, your problem will be solved.

Hi Kaelong, running inbox repair tool or scanpst.exe does not always solves the PST file corruption. Sometimes faulty installation of the scanpst.exe may be reason for such fatal error log. look for some genuine sites to find out the solution on Outlook forums
