Am having a problem with the text in the body of the email appearing as a
"barcode". I don't think it is a real barcode it just looks like one. Is
this some kind of encoding problem. Thanks for your assistance.

What version of Outlook are you using? What if you change the font you're
using?

Outlook 2003. To be more specific the problem occurs when an email is
replied to at which point the original portion of the email appears as bar
codes and the text area of the reply appears correctly.

Thanks,

There are barcode fonts. Is this a HTML message, and if so, what is the
font that displays like barcode? And what is the encoding of the message?

If you select that text that looks wrong, what font does Outlook's editor
say it is? Try changing it to a different font?

Install the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack

We had the same issue with a client. One of our tech overlooked this little set-up detail. When our client tried to respnd to an email sent from Outlook 2010 or 2007 (doesn't matter which version)the original message appeared as a barcode.

Hope this helps.
