Outlook 2007 "To" auto complete slow

I really did look through some of the previous posts, so forgive me if this
is a repeat. When I am composing a new e-mail and start to type an e-mail
address, it takes a LONG time to auto complete. I turned off all my add-ins
and the other suggestions for Outlook 2007 being slow. To be honest, I have
not experienced any slowness in Outlook at all with the exception of this one
area. It's really frustrating.

I'm open to suggestions.

I've never seen that reported. State what steps you are using and what part
of the process takes a long time. How long have you been populating the
autocompletion cache for this profile and has it always been slow?

outlook 2007 with no luck.

These are the steps I have performed already.
Solution 1: Close Outlook. Rename or delete outcmd.dat, extend.dat,
views.dat, the .srs file, and frmcache.dat. Outlook will recreate these files
as needed.

Solution 2: Create a new PST if you use one. Although the Outlook 2007 PST
is essentially identical to the PST format new to Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007
writes additional data to the PST.

Solution 3: Create a new profile. No need to delete the old profile just
yet, just make a new one to see if this resolves anything. If you upgraded
from Outlook 2003, then it's highly recommended you create a new profile.

I went throught the same steps outlined in the post from Chris Millette shown
as a reply to my post. When starting a new e-mail, I usually just type the
first couple letters of a name and it comes up with a list of names for me to
auto complete. In Outlook 2007, it takes a LONG time. As a point of
clarification, I dual boot my machine on Vista Ultimate and Windows XP. The
Vista machine has Office 2007 installed and it was installed fresh. The XP
machine was upgraded from Office 2003 to 2007. The fresh copy of the
software works fine. The upgraded one is where I'm seeing this long delay in
the auto complete.

None of those would have anything to do with autocompletion. Try answering
the questions I asked instead.

Aha. Upgraded installations never work correctly until you create a new,
unique profile from scratch. After you do you can try to migrate your
previous cache to it using the method described on this page:

I agree about the upgrade but I have this issue on another brand new machine,
different user, with a new install of 2007. I have deleted the profile on my
machine at least twice,(mine is upgraded) I can re-populate my autocomplete
file as I go so I have never worried about bringing it in the new profile.

Good one. I didn't know McAfee was in this mix. It is always the first
suspect whenever it is. I know that other AV programs can also disable
autocompletion by marking the NK2 file read only.

I'm not worthy... You're great. Thanks. That has been eating at me for a
long time. I am the test platform for upgrades, patches, etc. If I couldn't
get this to work right, I was going to have to delay upgrading users to
Office 2007. MS wasn't much help on this one.

posts? Always include your AV software when you post about Outlook
performance problems.

Hey, thanks - solved the problem - I too run McAfee (for now) and it was the
culprit - though I could not figure out how to add outlook to an exception.
I had to turn off the whole overflow buffer. my console came up and all I
coudl do was turn it off, no chance to make changes. Perhaps it is because
it is the "McAfee Security Center" ....oohhh....whcih includes the firewalls
etc.anyway, I'd love to fine tune it but at least I have my outlook back.
this problem started just after I did a pile of MSFT updates on Friday last
week. Odd that it is a McAfee issue. It must have updated as well.

time to switch AV provider I guess. this is not acceptable - major AV
provider makes a glitch with the biggest email program....Not good product
sopport.
