I cant receive messages from a new email account

I have just created a new email account (already have a main one) and I can
send messages from it, but I cannot receive them - can any one help?

am a bit of a novice, so not sure what configurations there should be. I
followed the Mircrosoft Help instructions to create a new email account and
it set it up for me. I tested the account and tried to send a test message,
it indicated that it had been successful, but I have not received it. I
tested it myself and sent a message to my original email account from the new
one and I did receive this mail through my original email account, but when I
did this in reverse (sent an email from new account to original account) I
did not receive it. Is there an alternative inbox that these messages are
being sent? (I have not set up another inbox myself).
