I am purchasing the Office Home and Student 2007 software and want to keep my
Outlook 2003 from my previous Home and Student 2003 edition for my email. I
am running Windows XP Home Edition. I have heard that there are problems
running Outlook 2003 and Office 2007 together. Is there some way I can do
this?
I have searched. but not found any clear answers.

No problem as long as you keep only 1 instance of Outlook installed be it OL 2003 or OL2007.

You can safely install Home and Student 2007 and keep Outlook 2003

The problems are that some features aren't available in outlook when you use
different versions. Since you have an office suite, I would keep it
installed and install the new suite - it installs into a different
directory so that won't be a problem.
