Live/MSN/Hotmail is a product that is now funded by advertising - a reach
play - so why is I have to have a subscription to access the email through
the Outlook client that I BOUGHT FROM MICROSOFT? I know you want to give
people a reason to buy office live but this is sad - the revenue stream can't
compensate surely for the lack of product uptake and therefore eyeballs on
the ads with corresponding click-throughs or the loss of "goodwill". I ended
up opting for gmail purely becuase I get a free POP account....The only
saving grace is Windows live desktop mail but that means I have to use two
email clients...This is just sad...Surely the idea should be to get WL
Desktop for those who DO NOT have Outlook....

Well, while MSN may be wholly-owb subsidiary of Microsoft, they're not the
same company and you purchasing something from Microsoft does not give you
any right to use any product offered by MSN.

(Pedant alert: you didn't buy Outlook from Microsoft, either. You bought
the rights to USE Outlook.)

To what "you" do you refer here. Microsoft, as an entity, does not visit
these newsgroups. Once in a while, a Microsoft employee may visit and
answer questions, but it's rare.

Outlook can be used without MSN and MSN can be used without Outlook. Use
whatever mail client you like with MSN.
