In Outlook 7 I suddenly can't receive my e-mail and get the error message
"unknown error 0x80040600"

Can anyone help me to know where to look for the problem?

Thanks1

You may have a problem with your Personal Folders (.PST) file:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814441/en-us

"0x80040119" and "Unknown error" error messages when you try to read, send,
receive, or delete e-mail in Outlook

Thanks K. Orland,

This solved my problem. It was a corrupt Outlook.pst file.

I am glad you took the time to respond! I hope I can do the same for others
in the future.

after doing all this ,I get the a error message stating that the pst file is
in use by another application. Close Microsoft Office outlook and all other
mail-enabled applications, and try again.

I did all the above and I still get vthe same message.

Four solution
1. Close outlook and related application, again open outlook proplerlly
2. Create new outllok profile and check new outlook profile if new outlook profile work correctly then remove old outlook profile
3. Run inbox repair tool(scanpst.exe)
4. Third Party Solution

You can adopt all check and all methods one by one. For more detail http://recoverlostdatatools.wordpress.com/2011/01/20/pst-recovery-no-more-a-worry/
