Where does one uncheck Outlook startup warnings?
After finding this out (using regmonnt) and not knowing how many other
permissions were wrong, I added the Administrators to the HKCR root
(probably not the safest way, but hey, it works). After that, the
installation went fine.
I had the same problem. I traced it back to security permissions on a number
of registry keys. By manually adjusting the permissions on these keys I was
able to get the install to complete successfully.
You will need to give your account, or the group your account is a member
of, Full Control permissions on the following registry keys:
HKCR\.wll
HKCR\.csv
HKCR\.mdb
HKCR\.msg
HKCR\.tif
HKCR\.pps
HKCR\.rtf
The installer attempts to create a subkey called PersistentHandler on each
of the above keys, and if it is unable to, it will fail with the Access
Denied error.
I'm not sure if this is the same issue or not, but I can't find anything
that relates to what I'm experiencing any closer so here is my problem:
After installing outlook 2007 it promted me to install the new 3.0WDS
engine, I already had the 2.6.5 version installed. After downloading the
program I installed it without error. However it doesn't seem to have changed
the version numbers in the options of my desktop search options. The errors
I'm experiencing are:
1) The instant search feature in outlook reports a "outlook cannot perform
your search" error for whatever search quiery I enter.
2) The advances search keeps looking indefinately without finding anything.
3) If I set the instant search to search all folders I get: "The messaging
interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart
outlook" which is very strange.
4) The desktop search (still version 2.6.5 apparently) now only finds
outlook items but won't let me preview or open any of them. If this is by
design I would like to know as I'll go back to 2.6.5 to regain normal search
features which I use a lot!
Ok thats all I've notices. Please please please help me. I don't understnad
what happened. I imagine its a fault with the WDS3 engine but I need someone
wiser to guide me.
Thank you in advance.

can you point me to where in the HKCR to find the above?

I'm experiencing the same problems (1-3). I haven't found a solution yet,
but I'm suspicious there's a configuration error in the new indexing
service. I noticed I can configure this from the Control Panel, but I don't
have any information about would be the appropriate set of configuration
options (such as which folders and file extensions to include/exclude).
FYI, it seems installing WDS 3.0 completely removed my previous version (it
sounds like you still have the old version available).
Tor.
1) Close Outlook
2) Uninstall Desktop Search via Add/Remove Programs, and REBOOT
3) Download and install Desktop Search v2.6, and REBOOT
4) Download and install Desktop Search v3, and REBOOT
Finally, after the odd procedure above I was able to go into Tools, Options,
Search in Outlook and select my Personal Folders and Archive Folders as
places to be indexed.
Simply reinstalling Desktop Search 3 or removing and reinstalling it didn't
do the trick -- the exact procedure above did it for me.

I tried to follow your instructions to change the permission setting in
the registry. I could not find the settings that you listed in the
registry.
Could you be a little bit more specific please so I can find these
settings and change them?
Thank you!
Thanks.
