I have tried what I found in other places of the forum, like:
unchecking "use microsoft word to edit email messeges"
turning off my "pop-up blocker"

Any other ideas why when I insert a .gif or receive a .gif in an email it
does nothing. It turns it to .bmp format. Thanks.

Only when saving by rightclicking it. See;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/saveembeddedpictures.htm

Note that while composing you won't get any animation.

I dont want to save the pictures though. I want to compose a new email and
stick a .gif in the email and send it on. When I do that it gets sent as a
.bmp, no animation.

That is the only answer it seems like you guys give, I have read that 100
times.

Well you leave out a lot of information on actually trying to help you.

What version of Outlook are we talking about here?
Can you post your exact steps to include the image?
Are you using Word or Outlook as the e-mail editor?
Are you composing in Rich Text or Plain Text?
How do you see it actually gets converted to bmp?

Outlook 2003

> Can you post your exact steps to include the image?
Click insert, picture, from file, select the .gif

> Are you using Word or Outlook as the e-mail editor?
I have tried both, doesnt work on either

> Are you composing in Rich Text or Plain Text?
I am composing in HTML, but I have tried both of those too.

> How do you see it actually gets converted to bmp?
I see that it does when I import it, and it does not move.
Or when I send the email and then view it, it is a .bmp

Rightclicking it and choosing Save As... will always show it as a bmp. For
this I created a VB script so you can extract it and keep the original
format (see my first reply). Does the gif-file move in Internet Explorer?

BTW; Outlook 2003 with SP1 and additional updates on WinXP/IE6 SP2 with
additional updates?

Well I dont really care about saving one someone sends me or when I send it
to myself. I guess I will try figuring it out on my own.

If anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

thanks.

Hi Drex,

I'm only here trying to help you. Since I don't have enough information to
give you a clear answer I asked you to take the troubleshooting steps to see
if indeed the gif-file gets converted to a bmp-file and that that specific
gif-file works in IE. If you don't care about taking those steps and provide
the info requested you are indeed on your own with this issue.

Regards,

I did what you said, it works in IE, it works in firefox, etc.

But when inserted to an email does not work.
