Perhaps you disabled the option. Tools>Options>E-mail Options. Check the
box labeled "Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder"

What about the option about folders other than the Inbox?
Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options.

May I gatecrash this discussion, please? I too am finding that sent mail
doesn't appear in the sent mail folder, even through the option is correctly
checked. I tried for a while directing it to a sent mail folder in a
separate e-mail account and then dragging it into the default sent-mail
folder, where I want it to be; and lo and behold as soon as I drag it to the
default sent-mail folder it disappears. Any ideas, please?

It's Outlook 2007 and the account is IMAP/STMP. Everything seems to work OK
except this one thing!

Are you moving the messages to the imap's sent folder or keeping it in a
local pst?

When I set up the IMAP account I asked for the sent mail to go to the sent
folder in the IMAP account. That actually works OK. But for various reasons
I need it to go to the main, default, Sent Folder. If I set it up like that
it doesn't go to that folder; and if I drag it there it just disappears.

How are you changing it? From Tools, accounts, select IMAP account then
Change - then More Settings, Folders. Select the top option to use Outlook's
sent folder?

Yes, that's what I've been doing. If I ask for sent mail to go into my IMAP
sent-mail folder it does that, no problem. If I ask it to go into the
Outlook Default Items Sent Folder it doesn't seem to save it anywhere. The
default Outlook Sent mail folder is as empty as it was on the day it was
created. As I say, it won't even accept things that I try to drag into it.

do you have save sent items disabled? tools, options, email options, save
copies... I'd think its required to use any of the sent folders, but check
it for sure.

We have the same problem. Sometimes a sent mail will appear and sometimes
not. With many sent emails each day, it is completely random.

I had the same problem and found a solution here
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/549851-outlook-2007-wont-save-sent.html junkjunk article

but also checking storing files
I have realized that my sent items file was located in the archive folders
for some reasons I don't understand and that is why I supposed it was not
working
