I have moved on a little having read article 287563 - how to mark your
contact folder for use with your address book. Only problem is that there is
no tab labelled "outlook address book" on the folder properties.

The Outlook Address Book never has any individual items in it. It functions solely as a parent container for address lists derived from your contacts folders.

The Personal Address Book is a legacy address list included for backwards compatibility. You can remove it through Tools | E-mail Accounts.

Thanks Sue but I'm still confused. Before I "lost" the address book the list
of contacts came up automatically - now I have to choose the "contacts"
folder - so what did I do ? Also - my last question also asked about
deleting personal folders that won't delete by the normal method - rt click
on the folder and click "remove folder"" When I do this I get the message
"object not found" (or similar)

You mean you have to select the Contacts list in the address book? You can change what list the address book displays by default by opening the address book, then choosing Tools | Options.

Your PST question is unrelated to the address book (best to put unrelated questions in separate posts). See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/ghosts.htm
