Please help. This issue happens on a regular basis. Office is patched with
all latest security and other MS patches. OS as well. McAfee Enterprise
with EPO is running on system. Communicator is running. Outlook ost file
not set up for offline use. IE 7.0 fully patched on system. Have to use
this version for corp compatibility. I have tried the tip about outlook
/resettodobar and still happening. Event Error is this:
EventType officelifeboathang, P1 outlook.exe, P2 12.0.6514.5000, P3
ntdll.dll, P4 5.1.2600.5755, P5 NIL, P6 NIL, P7 NIL, P8 NIL, P9 NIL, P10 NIL.
MS Office Session error is this:
ID: 6, Application Name: Microsoft Office Outlook, Application Version:
12.0.6514.5000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6425.1000. This session lasted
5818 seconds with 1740 seconds of active time. This session ended with a
hang.
This is a corporate install of OFFIce that was just cleanly redone. MS does
not have any info on the Event 5000 and I have submitted the bug/crash report
multiple times to MS for their review.
Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Do you see OFFLB.EXE in the Processes tab of Task Manager? That's
Microsoft's Office Application Recovery tool. It runs when a hang is
detected. It then tries to save the data, unload the app, and reload
the app. It can take over 5 minutes to get past the hang for a timeout
under Windows. This tool showed up in Office 2007. You never mentioned
WHICH version of Office that is involved; however, the "Application
Version: 12.xxxx" indicates you are using Office 2007 (10 = Office XP,
11 = Office 2003, 12 = Office 2007).
When Outlook is hung, try killing the offlb.exe process to see if
Outlook comes back alive.
Tried running Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe") which does
not load any add-ons you installed into Outlook? Could be you have an
add-on that is screwing up Outlook. Since you mention McAfee then the
Office install really isn't "cleanly done". Check what add-ons were
installed into Outlook.
Apparently HP's Photosmart causes problems so you have to select a
different printer as the default. If you want to use that printer, just
select it after starting a print job.
There may be a 3rd party add-in, a corrupted template or document, a damaged
registry or another factor, such as HP PhotoSmart printer driver, or other
issue going on. To start, use Start=>Search to cleanup and delete any left
over files from crashes by searching for file names found using:
~$*.*;*.tmp
I've also heard of this happening if Skype is installed.

Thank you for reviewing this. yes offlb.exe does show up everytime this
hang happens. I will kill next time and see what happens. Our McAffee is
the enterprise version handled by our IT. They are aware of this issue but
have not come up with a resolution to my problem. This is my third case with
them for same issue second case they did the uninstall of OFFICe 12 (2007)
and clean install. Issue was gone for about 2 to 3 weeks and started
happening again today. Haven't run any third party utilities in that time
except updated to java 1.6.0_17. Do have Snagit 8.0.1 -Feb 27 2006 installed
but have disabled the active x and plugin for Office and IE for that because
this might cause issues with Office 2007.
No HP photosmart printer connected just network shareed HPLJ4350. Do access
a shared Dell Photo AIO Printer 964 but is not default.
I will try Kathleen's advice as well with the cleaning of temp files. I'll
check on 3rd party plugins for others besides sun's java. No Skype

Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue? I have one user that has the

exact to what you we're dealing with and everything was fine for 2 weeks then
it happened again. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Brian
I have tried removing WDS 4 (Windows Desktop Search) as it was contantly
indexing his mail and even that didn't help. If anyone has found a fix for
this I would be eternally grateful. I'm going to take Mcafee off next and
see if that has any effect. I did notice that it mainly happens opening HTML
e-mail though. Hmm
All help is appreciated...

I have luck as you do :) A Chief Exec machine with this very issue. Were
you able to resolve?
An HP printer is involved in this case so I did update drivers and now
waiting to see if it happens again.

I have one user - out of 7 having this issue. I see the offlb.exe start up.
I get this error, and outlook 2007 sp2 crashes when I forward mail. It
doesn't seem to matter whether or not it has images or is just plain text.
I reinstalled office, updated, disabled all add-ons. Safe - mode appears to
work fine, but since I can only replicate the error on certain forwarded
items I can't be sure if it works.
With Kathleen's advice, am I to delete each tmp file or just ones associated
with crash files or dumps?
