Yes, you need to use the outlook connector.

Hi Diane,

I have the same issue as RB is. I just purchased Outlook 2007 and I
installed Outlook Connector 12.1. I can see both my Outlook and Live.com
calendar. However the dilemma is that they don't sync.

I have to copy and paste each and every appointment from one calendar to the
other. So how do we make it so they sync with each other so it'll go from
Live.com->Outlook->Mobile Device (WM / Palm / iPhone)?

You can't sync the calendars without using a utility - but you can set the
connector acct as the default data file and use the hotmail calendar as your
default.

See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/sync-mail.asp for tools which may sync
the two calendars.

I'll just stick with "free" Google Calendar or Yahoo Calendar. I'm not
looking forward to spending $100 to those sadly.
