Appt not sent over email

When I am sent an appointment from someone outside of my
organization (I am added as an attendee on his list but I
am at another company completely) I get the email with the
meeting details as text and an attached document
(meeting.ics) but I cannot open the attachment - I get an
error message when I try: "Cannot import Vcalendar file".

Is there a way for someone to send me an appointment (he
calls them an S+) from 'outside' my network so that I can
have it entered into my calendar like other appts from co-
workers?
