I have Outlook 2003. I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate. I noticed
recently that all calendar entries prior to May 20, 2009 have disappeared. 1)
Can I restore them and if so how? 2) How do I stop Outlook from doing that. I
want to save all my calendar history. Fortunately all my old emails are still
there.

Are you syncing with a portable device, like a blackberry? If so, see

No. It is a stand alone laptop. I don't have a blackberry, raspberry,
strawberry, or iphone. I still have my two questions, though. 1)Can I restore
them from some archived file (assuming they were archived automatically) and
if so how? 2) How to I stop this from happening in the future? Any help would
mbe most appreciated.

Yes, if you have an archive, you can restore them. go to tools, options,
other, archive - see if it is enabled. If so, right click on the calendar
folder choose properties, then autoarchive tab and change the setting or
disable archiving on the folder. Now go to file, open, outlook data file
and look for the archive folder.

if autoarchive is not enabled in tools, options, something else deleted
them. In this case, you need a backup file to recover them.

I go to tools, options, other, and then there is an AutoArchive button. I
click it and get a window where I can adjust various settings. I do not see a
calendar "folder" that I can right click. I right click the Calendar button
which is under the list of mail folders, and don't get anything useful. Where
is the calendar folder located? I have Outlook 2003 SP3.

This is the tools, options, other tab, autoarchive button's dialog:
http://xsolive.com/Outlook%20Screen%20shots/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=126
Is the option on top checked? If not, autoarchive won't run.

If it is enabled, what properties are set on the calendar folder? close the
tools, options dialog and go to the calendar navigation pane to find your
calendar folder. Right click on the calendar that is missing the
appointments and open properties. What are the settings on the autoarchive
tab?

Thanks, Diane. Yes, the first option you metioned is checked.

I got to the Calendar Properties, AutoArchive tab, and the radial button is
checked that says "Archive items in this folder using the default settings."

At the bottom of this little window it says "The network administrator has
not set retention policies." Is that relevant to my problem?

If the calendar has been archived can I get the old information back?

No, the retention setting doesn't apply here. The archive pst should be in
the default pst location - outlook should open to the location if you go to
file, open, outlookdata file. Or go back to tools, options, other tab,
autoarchive and copy the address where the archive pst is - then paste it
into the address field of windows explorer.

Thanks, Diane. When I try to open up the archive pst, I get all kinds of
warnings including a message that Windows can't open the file. I don't want
to open it. I just want to restore history. I am just about giving up. I have
printed hard copies of the calendar up to today, just in case this happens
again. I will do it monthly each month from now on That is my only solution
that I see works.

Thanks for your efforts.
