Recently I imported several thousand contacts into BCM as part of a
migration from our old contact management software. We've been using
BCM solely for a week or two now, but now I find that one of the
fields was mapped incorrectly. Is there a way to update or overwrite
duplicates (especially specific fields in a duplicate), instead of
just either importing (so now you have two of the same contact) or not
importing (so nothing actually changes)?

Not to jump on your thread, but I have been wondering about this as well. I
do not want to have to rebuild my database. I hope someone answers this for
you.

It depends. One way to about this is to export all your data to a BCM
file (an XML text file), edit the data to make the corrections, create
a new database, and import the edited data back in.

Whether this is feasible in your case depends on how easy it is to fix
the data in the BCM file using a text editor's search-and-replace
feature.
