Hi All,

I have managed to configure SMTP notification in SCOM 2007 and it's sending
alerts to e-mail recipients. Now, how do I configure the SMS notification
option to send alerts to mobile phones? Do I need to connect a gsm sms device
to the scom server for it to work or is there some cool parameter that I can
pass to the SMS Gateway in our company?

We used to use Solarwinds for network monitoring and we could send alerts to
our SMS gateway in the following format <mobile number>@sms.gateway.co.za but
with SCOM if I use SMTP to pass it to the SMS gateway the formatting comes
out as garbage on the mobile phone.

Is there any special way of configuring SMTP and the ENCODING option for the
message not to appear scrambled.

Has anyone got SMS alerts up and running at there site?

Will appreciate the help.

Cheers,

Ruaan

Hi RuaanD79,

Start by verify that your messages it not to long, that is a common problem
with SMS notification. Then, I think in the create new subscription wizard,
you can choose to not use the default sms format. You can also do that under
global settings.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. What is the most common encoding to use when using SMS
notifications?

Does anyone have any cool examples?

Regards,

Ruaan

Hallo All,

Just want to send an example of what the sms alert looks like on a mobile
phone.

=utf-7?Q?Alert: Script or executable failed to run?=:Source:
incubus.domain.local

I'm sending the sms to our companies SMS Gateway via SMTP and the encoding
is set to Unicode UTF-7

Any idea how I can get the =utf-7?Q? part stripped from the message?

Cheers

hi

Let me try and answer your questions.

Do you need to receive SMS? If you need to receive SMS, you will need
to host your own GSM device or modem so that people can send you SMS.

If not, you can just use internet SMS gateways like clickatell to do
the work, and post to them by HTTP, XML or email. The cost is about
6-8 cents per SMS. There are cheaper services, but not always
reliable. If you need to host your own GSM device, you can use
software like http://www.kannel.org (GPL Open Source) or
http://www.visualgsm.com.

Hi Sir,

I just wan't to ask if it is possible for kannel to send sms alert in solarwinds? I've already made the kannel configuration to send sms to different sms centers but my problem is to get all Alerts from solarwinds and made a script that will send those Alerts in to mobile number declared in kannel. I'm just a student and want to learn.

hope you can help me..
Thanks sir,
