I am testing ONENOTE 12 and have a dubt.
I am linking pages and sections in ON pages and OK. BUT when i reorganize my
notes (move o change the name of the pages) the links broken.

What I am making bad?

I think that ON is stupid. If you rename or move a page in ON, ON lost all
links to this page. Is it normal?

Thank!

NOTE: Please, i need help. I have a ot of links and i need reorganize my
notes. But if i reorganize my notes i lost the links. What I am making bad?

This shouldn't be happening. Can you tell us how you create the link?

Thanks!

What version of ON? OneNote beta2 Beta2TR? RTM?

Thanks.
The version of ON 2007 is RTM

I create that structure:

A book named: "PERSONAL"
_____A section named: "My house"
__________A page named: "house 1"
_______________A paragraph: "My house 1 is very good"
_______________A paragraph: "I love my house"
__________A page named: "house 2"
_______________A paragraph: "My house 2 is very good"
_______________A paragraph: "I love my house"
_______________A photo of my house:
_____A section named: "My car"
__________A page named: "car 1"
__________A page named: "car 2"

A book named: "WORK"
_____A Section named: "Tasks"
__________A page named: "task 1"
__________A page named: "task 2"
_____A Section named: "Alert"
__________A page named: "Alert 1"
__________A page named: "Alert 2"

A book named: "TEST"
_____A Section named: "Test ON"
__________A page named: "Test 1"

OK. Then...
1. I select: _______________A paragraph: "My house 2 is very good"
2. Push right button of the mouse
3. In options select "copy link to this paragraph"
4. I go to: __________A page named: "Test 1"
5. Push right button of the mouse on the page
6. Paste

Do the same for:
_______________A paragraph: "I love my house"
_______________A photo of my house:

In that moment I have three links in __________A page named: "Test 1":

- My house 2 is very good
(onenote:..\PERSONAL\My%20house.one#House%202&section-id={654502B1-2285-4A5B-8CE4-5ACF8B97D9EB}&page-id={BCCC1326-85F2-4C83-A94C-ED994E8416F0}&object-id={5DD0AB59-C3CA-4CE6-B052-B19A5BDE2B31}&1F&base-path=Pc1\g\GENESIS\EDITOTRANS\GESTION%20DOCUMENTAL\ONENOTE)

- I love my house
(onenote:..\PERSONAL\My%20house.one#House%202&section-id={654502B1-2285-4A5B-8CE4-5ACF8B97D9EB}&page-id={BCCC1326-85F2-4C83-A94C-ED994E8416F0}&object-id={44809D5C-9280-4D40-9DD0-92245A41062C}&F&base-path=Pc1\g\GENESIS\EDITOTRANS\GESTION%20DOCUMENTAL\ONENOTE)

- Imagen en la página "House 2"
(onenote:..\PERSONAL\My%20house.one#House%202&section-id={654502B1-2285-4A5B-8CE4-5ACF8B97D9EB}&page-id={BCCC1326-85F2-4C83-A94C-ED994E8416F0}&object-id={5DD0AB59-C3CA-4CE6-B052-B19A5BDE2B31}&30&base-path=Pc1\g\GENESIS\EDITOTRANS\GESTION%20DOCUMENTAL\ONENOTE)

OK. In that moment, if i push the links, all is correct. Example: if i push
link "I love my house", OneNote open the page __________A page named: "house
2" and select automatically _______________A paragraph: "I love my house"

MOVING A PAGE AND LOST LINK:
Then i MOVE (for example) one page to othe section in same book. Example:
I move on page (__________A page named: "house 2") to other section (_____A
section named: "My car"). The move is correct. In (_____A section named: "My
car") i have three pages:
__________A page named: "car 1"
__________A page named: "car 2"
__________A page named: "house 2"

Then i go to page (__________A page named: "Test 1") and push the links. The
result isn´t correct.
If I push the links, ONENOTE OPEN the correct page (__________A page named:
"house 2") BUT DON´T SELECT THE OBJECT. Example: If i push the link (My house
2 is very good), ONENOTE open the page (__________A page named: "house 2")
BUT DON´T SELECT the paragraph (_______________A paragraph: "I love my
house").

NOTE: The same success if i move one section to other book. The same success
if I changue the location of a book. Is is rare.

My notes are long. I make a lot of links to paragraph or images. If I can´t
use the links after move a page, ufff, it´s big a problem.

Thanks.

No, this anything but normal.
Normally Links are kept regardless of a page being moved.

Sorry, no idea on what might be wrong on your side assuming you are
using the RTM (final) version (not a Beta).

Not so for the last two points on my side:

Links are *not* "lost".
They open the *page* correctly.
They do not jump to the linked *paragraph*, however.
Instead the paragraph is opened where the cursor was sitting when the
page was last opened.

Thanks for the in detail description!
It seems a lot more clear now.

Are you sure that this paragraph is made *active* when the cursor was
not in this paragraph when you last visited the linked page??

So the links works for the page.
It is the same in my tests.
I can not see a situation different from the previous situation with
the link to the page in the *original* section.

AFAICS the only problem you are facing is the fact on the opened page
ON does not jump to the *paragraph* for which the link was created.
Have I got that right?

The links work on my side.
What does not work, however, is jumping to the *paragraph* the link
has been set for.
The link opens the linked *page*.
And there the very same paragraph is active and holds the cursor where
the cursor was last when I had visited the page.

I can confirm, however, that ON does *not* jump to the paragraph for
which the link was set.
This *could* be a bug, but I can not say.

Hi Maximo,

I'm sorry that the paragraph hyperlinks is giving you problems. In OneNote,
paragraph hyperlinks are generally 'fragile', and are not as resilient as
page, section, and notebook hyperlinks. When you move a page, we need to
update the information that identifies the paragraph, as a result, you lose
the paragraph hyperlink. However, we do take you to the correct page that the
paragraph is in, which is what you observed.
This is currently a limitation with paragraph hyperlinks, but we are looking
to improve it.

Thanks,
Michelle.

Fist: thanks for your patience and your answers!! :)

///

Yes, I am sure.

///

ON does not jump to the *paragraph* for which the link was created.
Have I got that right?

///

Ok, right. Its exact!

///

which the link was set.

///

Ummm... In my case, it is possible (before move a page).
Ummm... I think that feature exist ¡n OneNote. When you install OneNote,
OneNote open 3 books:
--> OneNote 2007 guide
--> Personal Notes Book
--> Work Notes Book

If you go to the BOOK: "OneNote 2007 guide". And go to second section
"interesting characteristics". And go to nine page "links" (or hiperlinks, i
don´t know traduce). Yu can read the hability of OneNote for link to
paragraph.

Spanish Version read: "Además de crear hipervínculos normales que apunten al
Web (Insertar > Hipervínculo), puede crear hipervínculos a cualquier parte de
sus notas (un bloc de notas, una sección, una página e incluso un párrafo
específico)."

English automatic traduction: Besides to create normal hyperbonds that they
aim at the Web (To insert > Hipervínculo), it can create hyperbonds to any
part of his notes (a notepad, a section, a page AND EVEN A SPECIFIC
PARAGRAPH).

What is your opinion? Onenote, Can really link a specific paragraph?

I think that yes, but the link to paragraps lost when move a page.

Ummm... interesting... Is a bug?

Correct!. The links are NOT lost, the link open the page but don´t jump to
paragraph.

Its my experience if the page is moved.

Thanks fro your comprehensive reply, Maximo.

Meanwhile Michelle has confirmed that there is a problem which
prevents that the links to paragraphs work after a page has been
moved.
So the conclusions at which we both had arrived match with what the ON
team says.

Thanks for translating.
I understood it better in the Spanish original, however <gbg>.

> What is your opinion? Onenote, Can really link a specific paragraph?

Well, as said before (and now confirmed by Michelle):
One can link to paragraphs.
But the ability to jump to the proper paragraph gets lost once the
page has been moved. Then only the page is opened.

If you really have long pages (I for one prefer to use subpages if the
stuff gets bigger) you might think about a workaround:
f.e. : Add links to the paragraphs to the beginning of the page and
when the page opens use the links there (untested).
