A while back in OneNote 2003, I turned off the Paste Options Button (Tools >
Options > Editing > Show Paste Options Button). Ever since I turned it off,
I have not been able to turn it on again. I've tried modifying the setting
in the registry and all, but nothing seems to work.

I've recently upgraded to OneNote 2007 trial version. Unfortunately, I am
still having the problem.

Does anybody know how I can get the Paste Options button to appear again?

Thanks,

I *FINALLY* resolved my own problem and thought I would share the
resolution here...

OneNote has a registry key to control the whether or not Paste Options
appears when pasting:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options
\Other\PasteOoui = 1 for ON or 0 for OFF

However, this value is overridden by the Office Common settings!
(Stupid, right? Specific settings should override Common settings,
not the other way around) Here's how to turn Paste Options on (for
all Office products, unfortunately):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\General
\PasteOptions = 1 for ON or 0 for OFF

I agree with a few other posts requesting that Microsoft should just
have a Paste Options feature like all other standard Office products
-- MICROSOFT, ARE YOU LISTENING??? FIX THIS!!!... please. =-)

THANK YOU!!!!!!! This has been bugging me for a long time!

I'm on OneNote 2007, and there is still (inexplicably) no "paste special" option. Grrrrr.....

..... and it's even STUPIDER of Microsoft to have ONE setting for ALL Office apps! That is, if I enable Paste Options button in Word, that also applies to Excel and OneNote; if I disable Paste Options button in any of those apps, it applies to all the others.

But the only place I NEED that option is in OneNote, since MS doesn't give me a "paste special" option in OneNote!

Ugh. Still stupid, frustrating, counter-intuitive, and time-wasting.

It's 2015, and OneNote 2013 still has the same issue.

Thanks guys!

No thanks Microsoft.

So - I know it's been awhile since you last posted... but I had a similar issue. I would copy text from either an email (Outlook), browser, etc and it would be inserted into OneNote as an image. I tried turning on the Paste Options menu and couldn't get it to appear.

So this is what I ended up doing, go to RegEdit and navigate here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other\PasteOption

Mine was set to 8. I changed it to 7 and voila it works! I didn't play with any other settings and have no idea what 7 does, but it works, I'm happy. If anyone else has a more in-depth reason for why 7 works, but 8 doesn't, I'd be happy to find out.

Thanks!
Shawn
