Align icons on OneNote page?

I am very new to OneNote. I have placed icons of several different Word and
PDF files on a particular page, and now they are rather messily strewn
across this page. Is there a quick way to align them into a neat and
space-saving row or two?

You may create a table and insert the links to the files in a cell of
the table.

Doesn't work. The table that gets created has cells that are much too small
for the icons, and I haven't been able to see how to increase the size of
the cells. I really do want the files themselves, as opposed to links.

Doesn't work. I do want the files themselves and not links, and the table
that gets created in OneNote has cells that are too small for this, and I
can't see how to make the cells larger when all I want to do is drag-n-drop
the icon for the file.

Tested it again. It works - with drag + drop as well as with "Insert |
File"

The cells if a newly created table are rather small indeed.
But they are automatically resized if an icon representing a file is
inserted.
If one uses drag + drop either arrow wir the square with the "+" sign
has to placed precisely over the target cell.
When using "Insert | File" the cursor has to sit in a cell.

Thanks for the replies so far. Much appreciated.

OK I see now that if you start with the cursor in the cell, then go to
Insert>File it will work.

I have tried numerous times, to drag-n-drop but it always seems to fall down
"below" the table--i.e., when I move the table, the icon stays behind and
doesn't move with the table. I didn't understand your wording about

"If one uses drag + drop either arrow wir the square with the "+" sign has
to placed precisely over the target cell."

Can you clarify that please?

Like I said, I can't figure out how to drop a file in the table, instead of
simply on the background behind it.

Well if nothing else, I can copy, then click inside a cell, then paste the
icon. That works.

You're welcome.

OK fine.

There was a typo, "wir" instead if "or". But I do hardly know how to say
it more clear :-( :-(
Let me try:
- Create a table with several columns and rows;
- drag a file from the Explorer to OneNote;
- the cursor now is represented by an arrow and a square box with a "+"
character in it;
- carefully move the cursor over the table navigate with it until the
tip of the arrow is inside a cell, then let the item drop into the cell
by letting loose the left mouse button; it works the same way if the box
with the "+" is over a cell.

It works reliably in my side, every time.

Rainald
P.S. If the icon drops outside (behind) the table you may use cut +
paste to move it into the proper cell

OK I see now. I've been dragging with my right-click (instead of the
left)--I've done this ever since I put my docs on a second partition. When
you left-click, as you said, it works fine, in Explorer. Thanks for hanging
in there with me till I got it.

Interesting. I never ever used a right mouse-click for drag + drop ;-)
;-)

I tried it with your (previous) way too. I can hardly see a difference.
The only really relevant thing is to place the cursor precisely over the
target cell.
And things get far easier once an icon has been placed in a table
because this automatically enlarges the row and the column and by this
the next drag + drop operation is easier ;-)

You're welcome. That's what we are here for <g>

All the best
