On my Tablet, I've created several custom tags. While these show up when I
open the notebooks next to their respective notes on my desktop computer,
the list of tag options on the desktop computer is the default list that
installed with OneNote, so I can't tag any new items I create on my desktop
with my custom tags - those are only available from my tablet (where I
created all of them).
I have set the notebook folder locations on both my tablet and my desktop to
be the same place. That worked great for accessing the notebooks, but the
custom tags must be stored somewhere else.
How can I copy my custom tags from my tablet to my desktop? Is there a
folder I can set up as a common folder so that any new custom tags will
automatically appear on both machines?
If my question wasn't clear, please let me know and I'll try to explain
better.
Thanks,
Colin
Copying that appeared to work, but I see that file also seems to contain
other folder data, which would not work on my desktop (drive letters and
things that don't match between the two computers).
Is it safe to copy this? What else will it copy besides the custom tags?
Could this corrupt my data in any way, given that the drive letters for the
data are different between the two computers (same location, but different
mapped drive letters - I share them on the desktop, map that share to a
drive letter, then make that available offline, so when my tablet rejoins
the network, everything syncs back up automatically)?
Thanks for any help,
Colin

After copying the preferences.dat file to the new machine, I would go
through each tab item under Tools | Options and ensure that the settings
are what you want them to be. Resetting options via the GUI will overwrite
whatever might be funky in the coiped preferences.dat file.
I've done this in the past and not had any issues, but you should be aware
that this is not a method endorsed or supported by Microsoft.
