If you open the sync status dialog, what state does it report for the
notebook? If you go to the errors tab, are there any errors listed? If
so, what's the exact text of the errors, including the error code?
Are you able to create and save files on the VPN share using other programs?

We do a lot of syncing across the VPN. Are you accessing the server by
a mapped drive letter or via a specified path with the IP address of the
server? We've found the IP address solution to be quite it a bit faster
and more reliable.

I am using a mapped drive, and wouldn't know how to use or how to get the IP
address. My problem is the sync process seems to be pretty slow, and
occasionally will not finish, even if left for 30+ minutes. The sync progress
bar will flash a few green bars every few seconds, but the process just
continues. The status prompt indicates one sync in progress. This VPN
connection is very reliable with other programs, and I have no problem
downloading (opening) the notebooks on that remote drive. Perhaps the issue
is not VPN, but something else. I don't get any errors, it just won't finish.
Thoughts?? And can someone coach me on using the IP address instead of the
mapped drive? Thanks, Oldoak

[1] Open a command prompt
[2] Run 'ping <server-name>'

This will show you the IP address of the SharePoint server.
