Devices that I worked with have proprietary vendor-specific API to work with FM radio. Reverse engineering has to be used to figure out API signatures which may (and most likely will) be prohibited by the licence agreement of the device's firmware.
I've seen this idea submitted before, but unfortunately it's inactive. I use Spotify Premium and my car stereo allows me to like/dislike tracks, but only in Radio mode. The big reason I use Premium is because it allows me to download songs. However, unlike Google Play Music, Pandora, etc. Spotify doesn't allow me to download Radio stations for offline use. Please add the ability to download Radio stations. Thank you.

Radio FM AM is a free entertainment app by BardoosNet that allows users to listen to FM and AM radio stations offline and online, as well as internet radio stations. It provides access to over 50,000 radio stations from 196 countries worldwide, making it easy to tune in to your favorite stations anywhere.
Radio FM AM has a sleek design to display FM and AM radio stations. Users can add their favorite radio stations to a list, view recommended stations, browse by country or genre, and use a sleep timer that automatically turns off the radio at a set time.
Radio FM AM has several special features including the ability to save favorite radio stations for easy access, a recent radio station list, a countries list with flags, and a sleep timer. Users can quickly find radio stations and browse music radio tags such as rock, pop, jazz, classical, and more, making it easy to listen to music depending on your mood.
However, the app is riddled with ads. While having a couple of ads is fine as it helps the developers earn some coins, it can be daunting to use the app if all you'll encounter are ads, which is the case for this title. This can be bypassed if you're listening offline, but that would mean you won't get to listen to internet radio stations, which is a bummer.
Radio FM AM is a feature-rich app that lets users save their favorite radio stations, browse a list of recent stations, and browse a list of countries. It also has a sleep timer, music radio tags, and a modern design with a dark mode. Android Auto support is also available for seamless listening in your car. However, the app is heavily ad-supported but can be bypassed by listening offline.
The ability to access the radio comes from the Qualcomm LTE modem in smartphones. They most likely include this capability because using a smartphone to access the radio is common in the developing world. And it's simpler to deactivate the radio chip than to use completely different modems for phones sold in different areas.
Although manufacturers can decide to activate the chip universally, it's on owners to unlock the FM radio on their smartphones. In terms of carriers, many major ones allow for the opportunity already. We don't know for sure why some companies won't activate the chips, but there are several theories kicking around:
Some companies say they don't see FM radio as a big selling point or something consumers would actually want. When you consider how easy it is to create your own custom radio stations on YouTube Music, for instance, FM radio can seem far more limiting.
If you have a supported device and carrier, accessing your device's FM radio isn't difficult. You only need two things: an app called NextRadio and wired headphones, wired earbuds, or a speaker to act as an antenna. NextRadio previously kept a list of supported devices and carriers; you'll need to check via the app now.
So if you don't want to check NextRadio's list, download the app to see if your phone is compatible. If it can't find a supported chip, the download wasn't a total waste. As an alternative, you can explore these Chrome extensions that let you listen to radio as you browse.
These are all leftovers from when the app supported streaming and had limited data usage. The search function doesn't properly work either, so just put all your attention onto the basic FM tuner initially. You can still list your favorite stations, so you can create an FM radio playlist over time.
Probably the biggest advantage is the fact that connecting to the radio doesn't require you to use data. It's free to use, just like it would be in your car or on another device. If you don't have reliable access to Wi-Fi or have limited data, use the radio on your phone.
While you can access a lot of stations by streaming, streaming services won't always have access to all of your local stations. If you're accessing them via FM radio, you'll find every station that's available in your area.
The FCC recommends having a radio for emergency situations such as tornadoes or severe storms. This ensures you can stay informed or communicate if the phone lines and the internet both go down. Since home radios aren't as common anymore, turning smartphones into radios makes perfect sense.
Although you might not even realize you own a radio, there's probably one in your pocket most of the time. You just can't use it unless you download the right app. Or, in some cases, unless your phone's manufacturer or your wireless carrier activates the FM chip in your device.
Some companies have now started to activate radio receivers in their devices. However, it may still be a while before activated radio receivers become the standard for smartphones around the world. Until then, those that don't have supported devices should check out these reasons you may want a ham radio at home.
Now that you know how to activate and listen to the radio on your phone, consider these lasting benefits. During an emergency, you have an extra way to stay informed. And for general use, there's always a way to save battery life and data while using your phone.
ANT and ANT+ apps are, basically, functions that allow your Android phone to connect to fitness devices like various monitors and pedometers. But unlike other smartphone functions that are worked into Settings, ANT radio services appear as a separate app.
If your phone starts to act like it's in airplane mode (i.e. no connections are working) even when it's not, and displays "radio off," shut your phone down and remove the battery, wait a few minutes, then put the battery back in and turn it back on. The battery removal process will differ depending on the make and model of your phone. If you can't easily remove your phone's battery due to its design, let it run down to zero and shut itself down, then wait a few minutes before you begin recharging it, and turn it back on.
Samsung Radio is an official Samsung tool that lets you tune into several radio stations with your Samsung smartphone. Since streaming music platforms and podcasts started gaining popularity, there just aren't a lot of smartphones that continue to include an antenna to listen to the radio.
Samsung Radio includes a simple interface that lets you listen to multiple radio stations from the comfort of your smartphone. All you have to do is think about the frequency that you'd like to tune into and in a matter of seconds, you'll be ready to listen to any show that's broadcasting.
One of Samsung Radio's main features is that you can change the radio station using just a few gestures. You can also save your favorite stations so that every time you start the app, you don't have to waste time looking for them manually.
Offline Listening is available to Pandora Plus and Pandora Premium subscribers. When you lose your mobile connection, Pandora will alert you with a notification to let you know that we are switching you to one of your offline stations. This way you stay connected to your music without major interruptions. For Pandora Plus subscribers, we will automatically choose up to three of your most-listened-to stations along with Thumbprint Radio and add them to your offline listening stations. Pandora Premium subscribers, on the other hand, can choose which additional stations, albums, songs, or playlists are downloaded. Both Pandora Plus and Pandora Premium listeners can also switch to Offline Listening at any time, so you can save your data and take the music you love wherever you go.
There is no download icon anywhere that I can see. At least not on my iPod using iOS 15.5. The only way it seems to allow offline stations is deciding on its own to download stations based upon those most used. Do I need to upgrade to the top premium tier to select which stations are available offline?
Your three most popular stations (along with Thumbprint Radio) will automatically download for you to access in Offline Mode. If you have not yet added Thumbprint Radio, please let me know.As a Pandora Premium subscriber, if you'd like to download content for offline listening, you can tap the icon with the arrow pointing downward. This can be found on station, album and playlist pages, or, to download a track, tap the three dots on the Now Playing screen. Keep in mind, this button will only appear for eligible tracks. If you change your mind during any point of the downloading process, simply tap the download button again, and we'll stop and delete any downloaded content. If you lose connection while downloading, we'll save your spot with your partially downloaded playlists, albums and stations. The next time you gain a signal, we'll attempt to complete the download process for you.
