I'd like my folders to appear in alphabetical order, but
I can't seem to find a way to do this.

Steve,

It's fiddly and awkward.

What you want to end up with are all your sections listed
alphabetically at the beginning of My Notebook (as seen from inside
OneNote) and folders alphabetically at the end. At least that's what I
have found "works".

Once I had that set up I could add new sections and folders
alphabetically and keep them alphabetical.

To add a new folder to the beginning of the folders, right click on
the last section and select New Folder. To add any other folder right
click the folder immediately before it and select New Folder.

Similar for Sections but you can move those by right clicking and
selecting Move.

So ... back to where you are now

To move sections right click and select Move. Put those before your
folders in My Notebook (as seen from inside OneNote).

To be honest I now don't remember how I moved folders. I know there
was a way. :( ... Long time ago.

I think creating a new folder in alphabetical order then (outside
OneNote) copying / cutting sections (.one files) to the new folder
would work. But it's really kludgy.

W. F. Zimmerman has a section in his book (Complete Guide to OneNote) headed
"Moving Folders." He points out that you can't rearrange folders within the
OneNote Application but you can go into the Windows File System and move
them any way you want. It's a piece of cake. If you will go into Windows
Explorer you can move folders where you want them. The next time you go into
OneNote, the rearranged folder structure will be visible.

Sounds good. However, in Windows, my folders are sorted
by name. When I open OneNote back up, they are still
sorted in the order that I created them.

close OneNote. move the files out of the notebook folder. open OneNote.
close OneNote, move files back to folder. use the open command to add the
folders back (in alphabetical order).

I followed the suggestion, but numbered my folders before
moving them back to MyNotebook folder so that I could keep
them in desired sequence which is not alphabetical.
