My Send to OneNote button disappeared after Outlook reported some error when
it started. The error seemed to be related to OneNote 2007, so I uninstalled
Office 2007. But now I cannot get the Send To OneNote button to appear again
in Outlook 2010.

First, it is very hard to find *where* to enable this. I finally found the
AddIn "OneNote Notes about Outlook Items" in the "Innactive Application
AddIns" list. I had to both ENABLE it (under Manage Disabled AddIns) and set
it to start (under Manage COM AddIns).

But after exiting and restarting Outlook 2010 the OneNote AddIn is back in
the Inactive list. I don't find any errors listed in the Application event
log or the Office Alerts event log.

I looked for a "repair" option for Office 2010 in the Programs and Features,
but the only option is to "uninstall". Do I really have to uninstall and
reinstall Office 2010 to fix this problem?

Thanks much!

I managed to get this to work following these steps:

- Go to the "Manage add-ins" screen (via File - Options - Add-Ins -
Manage Com Add-ins - Go)
- Remove the "OneNote Notes about Outlook Items" add-in (it was listed
twice on my pc)
- Restart Outlook
- Return to the "Manage add-ins" screen (see step 1)
- Click the "Add" button
- Browse to c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft Office\office
14\Onbttnol.dll and click OK
- Restart Outlook

Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your findings!

P.S. t would be nice, could you change the "undisclosed" to your "real
name" as is usual in NGs.
There's just too may "undisclosed" senders :-( :-(

Just look in the original thread (I cannot enable Send To OneNote from
Outlook 2010 Beta to OneNote).
Undisclosed has posted a recipe there.

Just found this Forum, after an extremely frustrating time with MS.Your posting has most certainly helped, and I can't thank you enough either. I'm not a techie by any stretch, but bit my lip and followed your trail. Thanks again.

Not a "forum", actually, a *NewsGroup*.

As had been announced for quite some while - among many other groups -
MS did meanwhile shut down this very NewsGroup.
Even if some third-party providers who had mirrored the groups have not
yet stopped offering the groups, this group is dead. There ain't no use
in further posting here.

The new place for OneNote is the forum "OneNote: Sharing, Creating and
Managing Notebooks" in the "MS Answers Forums" hierarchy:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/addonenote/threads
To take part one need's an MS Live account (which meanwhile has become
an essential, anyway).

Quite some folks who in the past had worked with a NewsReader (NUA) do
not like to visit the forums through a browser.
Therefore it's important that meanwhile proper instruments have been
created which enable the usage of the forums with all of the common
NewsReaders (like Forté Agent, 40tude Dialog etc.)and Mail Clients (like
Outlook Express [OE], WinMail, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail etc.).
IMHO communicating through this channel one can be ways more productive
than wading through the forum's threads.

To do so a "bridge" is needed.
MS themselves have created two "NNTP bridges":
- Microsoft Answers NNTP Bridge (for the "Answers" forums;
- Microsoft Forums NNTP Bridge (MSDN, Technet and the rest).

The far better choice, however, is the "Community Forums NNTP bridge
created by the MVP J. Kalmbach
http://communitybridge.codeplex.com/
It has many fine features (even an auto-logon and it is really easy to
use.

Way to go:
(a) download the bridge and install it;
(b) in the NUA/mail-client create a News-account:
(aa) Servername: 127.0.0.1
(bb) Serverport #: 119
(c) start the NNTP bridge
(d) logon to MS Live;
(e) start the NUA/mail-client.

The NNTP bridge has to be started prior to starting the NUA/mail-client.
If the option "Auto start NNTP server" is selected, the login to MS Live
will be automatically.
The start of the bridge can be automatically if included in the Win
"Autostart"/"StartUp".

Hope this helps in getting connecting again!

Rainald
P.S. For the users of Outlook Express (OE) and WinMail:
The good old "OE-Quotefix" co-operates pretty fine with the bridge
