I am having trouble installing “The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack
2 (SP2)” When ever I check Windows Update it tells me it is downloaded and
ready to install but the installation fails. I even tried downloading and
running the update file directly, office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe,
and it still fails. The operating system is Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 3. I’d appreciate any help I can get in figuring this out. Thanks in
advance.

You receive an error message when you try to apply any of the 2007 Office
service packs on a computer that is running WinXP SP2 [or SP3]

I guess the Windows Installer is already up to date so that didn't help. Any
other ideas?

Having same problem. Already running Windows Installer 3.1.

When I double click on the service pack installer, I get the Agree page and
then extraction begins. Very shortly after extraction begins, the process
stops and the message 'this installation has failed' pops up.

Further:
Following the directions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954713/ I
found a 17303 error at sys.proc.result indicating that the extraction
failed. I have plenty of free hard disk space (almost 300GB), and plenty of
memory (2GB). The program starts to do the extraction and then just shuts
down stating "this installation has failed". There are no MSPLOG.logs.

I just can't seem to get the package to extract. And, without extraction...
I can't install.

More Further:
I'm seeing the same thing but noticed something else just now.

Both the sp1 and sp2 downloads from the MS site are telling me that the file
does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. Really?
MS isn't signing their downloads?

Could that be why they're not extracting or is there a security setting that
I have enabled/disabled that might be causing this prob?
