Word automation with XML in Word2007

To automate word with our ERP-application (DynAx), now we generate an XML-doc
and merge it with an xslt.
The steps to generate this xslt :
* create word-template with an xml-schema
* save as word 2003 xml
* convert to xslt with xml2xslt
The xslt is merged with the xml-data generated through DynamicsAx.
Since the docx(of Word2007) is a totally new concept (based on xml) the
method of generating a word-doc could possible be simplified.
Does anyone has info how this should be handled?
