Excel opens Word Template vs. Document

I have a 2007 Word Template linked within an Excel sheet. I the Teamplate to
open and generate a new Document, leaving a fresh Template for the next user.
However, my Excel hyperlink [and insert object] both open the Template itself
and allow me to permanently change . It needs edited, which is ok, but only
as a new Document. Thanks!
