Help!!

I downloaded the Office 2007 trial today and it installed the Spanish
version. I called support and they have no idea of how to get me to the US
English version or how to restore my old version of Office.

Any ideas????

Hi Ralph,

This can happen if somehow your Office Online settings (top left on the pages at http://office.microsoft.com/ show a country locale
other than the U.S., as an example.

Did you download through the links on http://trymicrosoftoffice.com and get a U.S. indicator in the URL of the page that takes you
to?

Thanks Bob

I frankly am not sure what the url said... I didn't know to look. I have
downloaded many trials before and never had this problem. I follwed the
download instructions which don't give you any option to select country.

However; I did find that my Office XP was not unistalled. So I took a chance
and unistalled the 2007 trial. This was successfull in restoring my old
Office. I did have to use the disks a couple of times.

Last night, I created a new passport ID and downloaded the trial again. This
time the trail would not install. So now I am worried that when I buy the
upgrade, it too wont install!

Ralph--

1) Try going here before you install your new RTM and delete the folder
Office 12 (highlight it and hold down the shift+delete buttons):

C:\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office 12 and delete all of the folders for
your Beta program there by deleting Office 12

2) Then go here and download and use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

3) Then use Add/Remove to uninstall the current Office you're going to
replace with the new Office 2007 you buy.

You should be fine.

Good luck,

CH

Correction: That file path should have read:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office 12 provided that you
had any of your your Office 12 trial installed on C:\ and Add/Remove
should take care of the current Office you have installed there now, and use
the WICleanup Utility and steps I gave you.

I have found this to work for any trial, or Beta or Office that won't
uninstall properly:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us

Always use the Windows Uninstaller Cleanup Utility if you have a problem
uninstalling Office. It gets rid of registry strings, corrupt dlls or files
that could block an unistall or the subsequent future install attempt.

That MSKB will get your Office uninstalled if it is giving you an uninstall
problem, but one of the registry keys can disable Add/Remove so you should
export all registry keys and save them, that way you can just do
a 3 click and add that registry kley back when you're finished.

Then you can restore the reg subkey which is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\*0FF1CE*

Export it if you follow the MSKB, and then after you're finished with
uninstalling the Beta or the Trial, whichever, then restore it to repair
Add/Remove.

Good luck,

CH
