We now have this problem on 2 computers (both Win98): When opening Word 2000, we get an illegal operation. WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module VBE6.DLL ... Any ideas please.

Yes! I have started running into this problem on several of our machines. The thing I have been doing (which seems to be permanently correcting the problem) is search and rename vbe6.dll - then open Word. It will automatically reinstall this .dll file from the Office cd. Good luck! :)

Russ, Kelly, this looks like a problem with an add-in. Try starting Word with a "/a" on the command line so that no add-ins or templates are loaded at start-up. If the problem goes away, you should check with the add-in vendor to determine if there is an update, or, if you can live without it, just get rid of it.
Good luck! Jeanne

Hi Jeanne, This did the trick but how do I know what add- in/template is loading. Both of these computers have only whats on the Off 2000 CD installed. Therre should be no 3rd party add-in. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Russ

Take a look at the Office startup directory (normally "\startup" underneath the Office directory). You would see a .DOT or a .WLL file. Judging from the error, it is definitely an add-in, so I would be curious to know who that bad boy is, too. Often system-wide utilities install additional goo when they find Office applications present.
