I don't expect an answer - but here's my dilema. Have a
laptop that's 3 years old - came loaded (and CD's) with
Works Suite including Word 2000. I also just purchased a
new Dell desktop with Windows XP Professional and Office
XP Professional. Then, I wiped the laptop, and purchased
Windows XP Home Upgrade (from Win98) and installed it.
Then I installed the Office XP Professional (in the past
one could use the Office program on a desktop and laptop
but not at the same time ONE owner) - of course, could
not authorize it. Then after talking to the wonderful
people at Microsoft - I took it off the laptop, and
reinstalled my Word 2000 from the original CD's. Now if
I try to begin using Word, it asks for the CD key which
is in my files in another State. SO I then took that
version off (through the control panel uninstall) and
installed my older Office 97 Professional. That
installed all but the Word - and now I cannot use any of
my documents. Wonderful. After spending YEARS and lots
of money on these programs, I can't use them. Ugh.
Makes Apple look better all the time. Any suggestions
out there? HELP.

Why did you not install Word? Did you do a custom install that excluded it?

First of all, you cannot install the Office XP Professional that came with
your desktop onto your laptop, because you have an OEM version of Office.
It can only be installed on the original computer that it came with.

If you do not have the product key for Word 2000, I suggest you contact the
manufacturer of your laptop, as they are the ones responsible for the OEM
product, not Microsoft.

And they wonder why piracy is such an attractive option.
That's why they're called Micro$haft.

Interesting - I looked on the NASDAQ pages and could find no listing for
that company. Seems like it is a figment of someone's imagination!
