What happened to the clip art gallery in Office XP? When I go to
insert>picture>clipart..it gives me an option to search by word instead of
the clip art gallery. I installed the media CD and if I do a search I see a
lot of clipart....but if I open clipart gallery from microsoft tools there
are very few. What is up with this? The old clipart gallery was better.

Hi Larry,

Are you running multiple versions of MS Office?

MS Office XP includes MS Clip Organizer 2002,
a different app than MS Clip Gallery.
http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/2002/articles/ClipOrganizerMediaClips.aspx
The two clip apps don't 'talk' to each other,
nor can MS Clip Organizer 2002 transfer your
old MS Clip Gallery catalogs into Clip Organizer
for you. MS Clip Gallery doesn't, on it's own,
interface to the MS Office XP apps, but can
still be used, in parallel and you can
drag and drop graphics into your Office XP apps
from it.

MS Office XP's Clip Organizer 2002 should be
in Start=>Programs=>MS Office Tools.
When you view or search 'Web Collections' while
online it makes the MS Design Gallery Live
(formerly Clip Gallery Live) content available
to you.

No, I have Windows XP RC2 and Office XP; I know that the Clip gallery 5 is
in the office tools but in Office 2000 the Clip Gallery would open when you
"insert picture>clip art". Now the task "PAIN" (play on words) opens. The
clip gallery I think was faster and you could visually search for clips. The
task pane doesn't work so well

Hi Larry,

MS Clip Gallery v5 isn't part of MS Office XP at all.
It can be downloaded and added if you haven't installed
another program that installs it for you:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q297/9/93.asp
but it won't be in Office Tools if you only have Office XP
from the CD. Rather than using the ClipArt Task Pane (sigh)
use MS Clip Organizer 2002 directly from Office Tools
and you can get a better view in both browsing and searching
and can still put the graphics into an Office document
(although the 'insert' command is gone as well), using
cut and paste or drag and drop.

Let MS know what you want changed and why through
http://microsoft.com/mswish
They do look at how many people request a particular
change we're told :)

There is a 3rd party Add-in that works with Publisher 2002
to let you use MS Clip Gallery with Office XP and
it's being reviewed by its author to see if it can be
expanded for all of the Office XP apps to give you
the previous behavior.
