I run Office 2003 on Windows XP SP2. About two months ago, I started having a problem. If I try to save a new file, the program cashes, PowerPoint and Excel If I try to update an existing file, the program crashes. I seem able to read files in Word that I have already created and if the file is in RTF, I seem able to make and save changes. If the file was created by one of my online students and then sent to me via Moodle, it can usually be opened and changed. But if I tried to create it on this computer, forget it.I uninstalled and reinstalled and tried to update to SP3 (I don't know if that worked or not). I never get any error messages. Malware Bytes has not found anything amiss. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem? Thanks.

how about reformatting the HD and starting afresh?  It looks like XP is corrupted and so it is time to wipe the disk clean and reinstall the Os and all the applications.  It takes about an hour to do this if the person doing it is well organized with all the serial numbers and disks readily available.

I know Office 2003 doesn't work in Windows 10 but then no sane person will ever use Office 2003 in Windows 10 when Office 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016 are better products for it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have far too many programs installed to wipe the disk and stat over at this time. I will keep that in mind, however. Personally, I really like menus and being able to find options to do things. Personally, I'd like to be the boss of the person who decided we should have that ribbon thing instead, long enough to fire the individual, but that's just one programmer's opinion.
