i haven't been able to find the symbol for euro currency
in the "insert symbol" chart. according to the ms website
help system, i should type alt+0128 to insert the
character. but they are also very specific about the
numbers being typed from the numeric keypad and not the
keys above the first row of alphabetic characters. alas, i
don't have a numeric keypad--i have a very compact
notebook. any thoughts on how to solve this problem?

thanks

In Word:
Insert....symbol.

The Euro is available under "Normal Text" and most ordinary fonts using MS
Office XP.

Idea 1) This might seem obvious but in case you missed it somewhere:
"Num-Lock" should be on; one must push and hold the alt key; type each
of the four digits; then release the alt key.

Idea 2) Use "Character Map" to insert it indirectly from the
Clipboard. (Install "CM" if it isn't already. You should find CM by:
Start Button\Programs\Accessories\System Tools.)
Choose the appropriate font; click on the character you wish;
click the "Select" button; click the "Copy" button--and your character
will be copied to the Clipboard for you to paste wherever you wish.

Idea 3) Ask at the news group alt.binaries.fonts for a free font of
euro symbols and install it. Such a font will have about 30 different
types of euros all accessible from regular keyboard keys--just use your
favourite.

Hope this helps. :-)
