Saving Word 2000 files on an SBS 4.5 server
If a file exists and we modify it and click save we get a file permission
error. Permissions are set OK and problem doesn't occur with any other app.
All saving works OK on local drive.
The only out is to do a save as using another name.
If you select cancel you would expect to revert to the existing saved
document, but no, the file is deleted for us. How kind !!!
I have noticed that during this procedure a temp file is created in the
directory with a .in2 extension.
Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated

I am having a similiar problem to what you described below.
My office just purchased new Dell computers running Microsoft Word 2000,
and when I open document files from the server, everything works just
fine. however, when I try to save those same files back to their original
location in the server, my Word application freezes.
Microsoft Excel and Notepad work just fine with opening, closing, and
saving files from our workstations to our network, but Word is simply not
working.
Let me know if you get any advice that is helpful in your problem.
