I've had communicator 2007 installed on my machine for almost a year now,
and I have had nothing but problems with it. All problems are issues with
the formatting of the messenger window. The following problems exist:
1. The emoticons are too large. As a result, they appear fragmented and
hard to see. If I repeatedly resize the window, they will continue to get
smaller and smaller, until they are barely visible.
2. The font in the typing window appears larger than the font size selected.
I have 10 point font selected, and the font size in the window appears to be
16 point.
3. There is a persistent horizontal scrollbar on the typing window. No
matter how I resize the window, the scrollbar stays. As I type, the text
does not linefeed until the scroll bar is all the way to the right. This is
resulting in some badly formatted messages.
The only time that it works correctly is when I have IE6 installed. As this
is a work machine, I wouldn't really care about just keeping IE6 installed,
but I've started having problems with it, and have had to upgrade. I tried
both IE7 and IE8, and neither one worked correctly. I have Office 2007
installed now, though I did have Office 2003 installed at one time. I've
tried installing and uninstalling multiple times, and I do have the latest
patches installed.
Any ideas?

I found the problem. It was just a setting. Edit - Text Display Size.
Mine was set at Medium, and it needed to be set to Smaller to get it to look
right.

From the Instant Messaging Area (Rich Text) shortcut section, I used ctrl+[ to reduce the text size. I was previously using ctrl+-, but I had to do this every time I opened a new chat window. Ctrl+[ worked to fix the problem.
