Hi, im an access n00b, sorry.
I am doing some work for a friend, he had an access database created several
years ago. I think it was created using access 97, and was running on access
97. We have recently re-installed the os and all the software. I have pffice
2K running now, but i cant seem to get the old database working. When i try
to open it, i get the error message: There is no object in this control. When
i try to convert the database, it reports "compilation errors during the
conversion or enabling of this database" followed by another error - " One or
more forms or reports contains an active x control that could not be loaded"

I have not yet tried the office service packs, but i will try those tonight,
do you have any more ideas?

The database may have something like a common dialogue box in it. You need
to search for missing links in the references section. Go into the VB window
(Alf F11) and then to tools, references and seek if anything is marked as
MISSING. If so, untick the box & say OK. Also you should compile the
database whilst in the VB window as you may have some suspect code. Click on
Debug and then Compile and try to deal with any errors that are highlighted -
if you don't know what to do you could always rem out bad code using '
temporarily to stop it holding the compilation up and then get it fixed by
whoever wrote it if possible later.
Good luck
