If I check the registry or ODBC.INI file, the entries are there, but just
don't show in the "System DSN" tab. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I
don't know what to do.
Thanks.

I have never seen this, but it sounds like a privilege type problem,
are you on the latest/same versions of MDAC?
You can download the MDAC component checer from:
http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm
You may also want to consider DSN less connections which will remove
the need for any configuration.

Do all systems DSNs disappear for that driver even with different
names?
Conversly same name and different drivers?
If this is a file based data source what happens if the file is
located elsewhere?

No, that's the odd thing. If I setup a User DSN, it appears. If I setup a
System DSN, it goes away. I can't figure it out.

It doesn't matter which driver I pick, they all disappear in the end when I
click OK. I would have expected it to disappear if the driver DLL didn't
exist, but I've picked random drivers and the same behaviour exists.

Yes, same name of connection but using different drivers.

I haven't tried a File DSN, will try it for test purposes.
Thanks. I may well re-install MDAC again and see what happens. With this
being a server, I want to limit the number of times it's rebooted.

The only other possiblity I can think of is registry permission or a
missing registry entry that is 'breaking the chain' so the item is not
being displayed. Do you have any system DSNs that you can compare
against?

None, unfortunately. This is re-cycled server and there were previously no
System DSNs setup. This is (I think) the first System DSNs being added.
I think you are correct, it's a registry related problem. Maybe a setting
is corrupted. I may well re-install MDAC and hope that works. If it
doesn't - I'll use REGEDT32 and set all the registry entries to have Admin
permissions.
