I have a new manufacturing & distribution client that wants to implement and
integrate NAV into their business. This is the first I've heard of it, so
that is why I am here looking for advice from those who know it, you!
They need a new server, they also want to bring their email in-house too. I
normally don't recommend SBS 2008 but in this situation, to save them $$$, I
feel it might be the best fit.
My Question: What is recommended, server build, to run NAV efficiently and
best practice?

This is the first you heard of what? Nav?

You should be honest & tell your client that you have no experience. Either
hire some outside help or point them to another company. This isn't a load a
CD & install type of program. You really need to know what you are doing.
Else I forsee disaster for both.

Other than that, here's a link to some important docs avialable for download.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=eec997be-50c8-4d27-8bf2-fa93c9ac282a&DisplayLang=en

you can find installation docs & hardening guide regarding the server.
