I am hard of hearing so I rely heavily on subtitles or closed captioning.
When I first loaded media player 11 on a vista home premium machine they
showed up. I had the avi and the srt file in the same directory/folder. Now
they refuse to show up. What's wrong? Thanks.

Windows Media Player 11 has no built-in capability of playing srt subtitle
files. You can add this feature with third-party utilities:
http://www.videohelp.com/play#subs

Once you have such a utility installed, the subtitles will only be found if
the filename of the ".srt" file is EXACTLY the same as the filename of the
".avi" file except for the extension. Try renaming the file.

If, like me, you are a fan of tv shows uoi'll probably like this nice app: http://sites.google.com/site/subtitlesmatcher/
You just right click on any movie file (or folder) and it finds the corresponding subtitle in that same directory and fixes the filename.
