Windows Media Player 11 has no built-in capability of playing srt subtitle
files. You can add this feature with third-party utilities:

Once you have such a utility installed, the subtitles will only be found if
the filename of the ".srt" file is EXACTLY the same as the filename of the
".avi" file except for the extension. Try renaming the file.
