I just bought a new computer with win7 and my windows media player 12 does
not work at all; it will not even open. When I try to play a song I get a
message that "server execution failed". I have done some research on the
net and discovered mostly negative comments about wmp in general. I wonder
if anyone could give me a clue as to a good replacement for wmp12 - I use it
mostly for playing mp3s and CDs and occasionally to rip CDs. Thanks in
advance for all assistance.

If you do a Google search on "server execution failed" there are many
results for the problem you are experiencing
I used to recommend "Real Player" as an alternative but is too bloated. Hope
you are able to continue with wmp12.

First of all, I love Windows Media Player and if it is broken, it can be
always repaired. Having said that, the free VLC is also a great media
player and can play almost any format you can think of.

If you like the look and feel of the old Windows Media Player v6.x, then
you will probably like Media Player Classic. These two are both of my
other than WMP favorites.
